Early Language Development

Speech Therapy

Early language development is one of the most common reasons families come to us. If your child is a late talker, struggling to put words together, or not yet using language the way their peers are — we can help. Early intervention during the critical language development window (birth to 5 years) is strongly linked to better long-term outcomes in communication, literacy, and social skills.

Our speech pathologists assess both receptive language (understanding) and expressive language (speaking). We look at vocabulary size, sentence length and complexity, ability to follow instructions, social communication intent, and whether your child uses gestures, signs, or other communication methods alongside or instead of speech.

Signs Your Child May Need Support

  • Late to start talking or has a limited vocabulary for their age

  • Difficulty combining words into sentences

  • Trouble understanding simple instructions

  • Not responding to their name consistently

  • Limited social interaction or joint attention

  • Using gestures instead of words to communicate

  • Difficulty being understood by unfamiliar listeners

  • Frustration from inability to communicate their needs

Our Approach

Therapy is play-based and delivered in natural environments — your home, daycare, or via telehealth. We coach parents and caregivers on language-rich strategies to use throughout the day, not just during therapy sessions. Goals are set collaboratively with families and reviewed regularly. For children with significant delays, we may introduce Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies alongside verbal language development.
